Storing arrow building supplies
«
on:

I was wondering how everyone stores all of their arrow building supplies-nocks, feathers, field points, etc.
I'm currently using one of those plastic framed boxes with the little drawers that slide out. It's ok but I always find those things to be a pain for some reason.
I was thinking about switching to the plastic Plano-type utility boxes used for storing fishing tackle.
Looking for someway to keep everything organized, but neat looking...those drawer systems aren't too attractive to me.
Any ideas?

I have a stack of about 10 plano tackle boxes that work prefect. I store broadheads in one, points in another, vains, feathers and etc.
I leave them stacked on the work bench for easy access. Its the best way I have found and easy to find when I need more.
When it comes to vains and feathers I buy the biggest ones I can find so I can separate them by size.

I Keep My Feathers in Zip-Lock Bags, Nocks in Baby Food Jars, Points Field & Blunts in the Greasy Little Bags they came in, Broadheads stashed in a Drawer, so My GrandDaughter cant find or get at them. The Shafts I Bundle together and Store Vertically.
Leaves me More Room in my Smallish Bow Room!

I have a flat plano style box, that carries a bit of everything, and it travels well when I go to the field (in case of repairs)

I use a Plano 4700 two-tier stowaway box that holds a little of this and that.

As an on-going experiment, I store my cresting lacquer jars inside larger glass jars with gasketed lids.
No matter how carefully I clean the lacquer jar lip and lid, they always seem to lose the MEK solvent.
I've had them sealed up for about three months and the other day I opened up one
of the larger jars and the whiff of MEK was strong. I'm hoping the VOC's reach equilibrium
inside the two different jars and effectively stop the drying-out process.

I use the Plano, but it's a LARGE black one, looks like a mechanic's tool box with drawers down the front, and the top lifting up.
In the field, I have just been carrying a tiny Plano that I've customized to hold the essentials...
However, I plan to sew myself a buckskin "wrap" with pockets inside suited for what I want to carry afield...

Couple of tackle boxes for small stuff. Cabinets for larger stuff like feather burner, fletcher, string, spine tester, etc. Lacquers in a paint cabinet. Wood shafts in arrow boxes, arrows in various quivers and arrow racks.

Thanks for the ideas. I've got some old tackle boxes and some plano boxes I think I will use.

My storage is basically an evolutionary process…some day, I hope to have enough space just to be able to find my stuff without searching. Smaller parts mostly go in plastic boxes about 9 x 15 with loose/adjustable dividers, full length feathers in plastic bags, and tackle boxes, which are mostly used for travel.
Shafts/arrows go in PVC/vinyl conductor pipe sections that I mount 6 to a base (got 7 of them = 42 sections) and larger sized cardboard tubes divided into quarters, plus 5 gallon buckets. As I said, seems always to be a work in progress…well, fun in progress. Rick.

Rick, that is absolutely beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye. Mine are all thrown in a huge rubber maid tub.
