carbon and foam?

how many years have carbon and foam been used for recurves? are they pretty much standard for olympics now?

From what I understand, Olympians have been using the foam core for a loooooong time now. I have had two sets from Bob. I can tell you this, they are as smooth and quiet as they come. It's a wierd type of foam. It's very brittle when you cut it with a pair of scissors,yet very stable in the limb. My bow doesn't need silencers on the string it's so quiet. You cannot go wrong with the foam cores.

thanks leatherneck,that kinda answers and may lead to the next question.i've shot bob's foam/carbon and a few others, no complaints.But If it has been around a long time,assuming olympians use for the top performance ,why is it not more prevalent with the bowyers.

ILF has been around a long time also. Could it be that some things are not seen as trad and take a while to catch on and gain enough acceptance with many trad bow groups to become in demand to the point that trad bowyers see a market to produce such things?

I could see that answer,xtrema,guess i don't think"trad vs. nontrad".does the cost prohibit some bowyers? does the extra cost outway the improved performance? why hasn't it "replaced" glass? just wondering.

All I am learning here is that I am liable to trade my longbows for an ILF with foam cores....All I see are positives.
