GOOP contact adhesive for inserts?
« on: January 10, 2010, 07:42:00 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has tried using GOOP contact adhesive for inserts?  Seems like it may work but if not I was hoping someone else had tried before.

I have used it to fix my Bean boot soles, good stuff, but the hot melt is faster I think. You would have to let it dry, might work?

for carbons and alums i only use slow set epoxy on inserts and point adapters.

hot melt only for woodies and tapered glue-on point adapters.

any form of 'contact cement' i'd avoid like the plague ....

Gorilla glue works as good if not better than slow set does, I have tried about everything under the sun. You need to make sure that all of your components are clean then dampen them with clean water and apply the glue, push the insert in and leave set over night. I use a 1 1/2 inch piece of wood dowel for an internal footing, glue that up push it in then push in the insert,  this will make a super tough arrow that will resist breakage due to the insert becoming a wedge and splitting out the tip.

I have used JB Weld, which is a slow set epoxy but have had some trouble with the brass inserts coming out. That is after cleaning with acetone, roughing up the insert with a file, roughing up the carbon with a chain saw file, cleaning the carbon with alcohol. Might try the gorilla glue and dowel method and see how it does.

Stone Knife, what size dowel do you use, 1/4-inch?
