My Asbell vest came in... but now I need pants...
« on: January 13, 2010, 05:39:00 PM »
Well my Asbell vest with hood in olive drab just came in. Used it most of the day and am very impressed with the quality and comfort of this product. But now I am thinking I should get some wool pants to, cept there doesn't seem to be a single place in my town selling any and I didn't see any for sale on the Asbell site. Anyone out there have any ideas? What I am looking for needs to be only bout 1/4 thick and preferably not in a camo pattern. Anyone own something like this?

check these out:

Not 100 percent wool, but they wear forever. I used to have a couple pair when I was a deputy. I kind outgrew them though

That was over 30 years ago though.

Look up the sportmans guide web site and do a search there, I bought 4 pair of east german wool pants for $21 dollars and shipping cost!  Been wearing them since before Christmas and have been very impressed with the quality and warmth.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

Cabelas has forest green bibs on sale (I just bought a pair). Lined wool, zippers in the leg, big pockets...same color as the Asbell stuff, which I just bought, also.

Cabela's Legacy wool is heavy enough and is as good as it gets and is still very affordable--well under $100--like $69 I think.  I own two pairs and they are as good as any I have tried.  Washable too.

Try some LL-Bean green wool pants (warm & comfortable).

Well, I will admit it's not good to wear a nice warm vest with no pants.

I'm with George on this one.

But since you bought a jacket with no sleeves, maybe you should buy some pants with no pant legs!

I just bought some old wool pants at a thrift store and I think they're great.  Do it, you won't regret it.

LL Bean has a good range of wool pants from fairly light to very heavy. They have a good guarantee, too.

There may be better stuff out there, but I got a pair of these earlier this year:

They made a night and day difference to my comfort level this year and you won't have to mortgage the house to buy a pair.

I've got a military surplus pair from the Sportsmans Guide that I have been wearing 20 years.

The LL Bean pants are nice....if you own a needle and thread. Those Chinese kids are terrible at sewing buttons.

I use Powerpro fishing line for thread and the buttons never come off again.

The brand "Big Bill" (Codet) is commonly found in Canada. I've seen pants in 2-3 different models and 2-3 colors varying from 75% recycled wool to 100% virgin wool.  They are made in Canada, therefore less expensive to buy here and you save shipping, duty, etc. Look for them in places where they sell work clothes.

In November I bought a dark green pair with cargo pockets for myself that were 75% and a pair of grey with pin stripe without cargo pockets for my wife  that were 100% new wool. I have four pair of wool pants of different thickness, color, and quality (one King of the Mountain) but the prices were good and I couldn't resist.

Sorry, I had confused Codet with Cadorette.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

I bought one of his sweatshirts made out of wool at the Trad. Bowhunter Expo when it was in Boise. It's a great garment, I use it all the time.

My vote is mil surplus. There are mil surplus dress pants that are made of wool. I believe they are of european make. It is liter weight wool than the ones with cargo pockets and worn in the field. But they work great for hunting and are green.

Sorry about the blood but Game Warden showed up just after shot and it was well after dark before I got back to camp and had to get the javi up in the skinning shed and remove the hide.
Anyway you can see the old military dress pants I wore on that hunt as well as 5 button mil wool sweater

Thanx for all the replies folks, looking into what you all requested. And nice Javelina by the way, those things are my dream critter. Rather hunt them than an Albertan Whitetail anyday. Must be nuts!
