"Avatar" static recurve?
« on: January 17, 2010, 10:57:00 PM »
I just saw that new movie Avatar tonight. Very good sci-fi 3D film! Anyhow, aside from the longbows, great hunting ethics and special effects, I thought, for a second, that one of the characters was carring a static recurve..? Did anyone else see the movie or catch the static recurve, or was I too taken up w/the 3D effect...LOL?

i've seen the movie several times.  most of the bows are simple eastern woodland type d bows.  the chief's bow is something else altogether.  i'm guessing all the bows are just rubber, just like the ones used in lotr.

Hey!...anyone know if Blockbuster is gonna sell the blue skin camo?

Conversely...imagine flying on a dinosaur! Which Optifade garment would be correct?

Great movie...we enjoyed it.

I've heard that Jaap Kopendrayer of Yumi bows built all of them.  I have not confirmed that though.  I do know that he built all the bows on "The Last Samuri".

In one scene, I thought I saw a bow that looked like it had Grumley style brush knocks and static limbs. The remainder were longbows.

By the midway point, I was wondering why they hadn't developed a horse bow for better manueverability when riding those horse & flying lizard things...

I was real impressed with the arrows, especially when they were shooting down the helicopters.....stabow

Well it was all computer graphic generated.  I doubt the bows were real except a model they worked from.

wingnut - I'm thinking the same thing, AVATAR was so real we're talking about who made the computer generated bows!

If you so a search on how Avatar was made, you will see no real dino's, bows or arrows.

I thought is was a great movie, the visual effects were awsome.
