Looking for next arrows
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:39:00 AM »
I will be looking for my next arrows before long and I am having a hard time making a decision.

First I shoot carbons.
Second I want a foc above 15%
Third I wil not spend more than $100 per dozen for shafts.
Forth I curently shoot Beman MFX 340 cut 30 3/8" with a total of 225 grains up front, and would like something at least an inch longer.
Fifth I shoot a 59@30 SR Swift.
Sixth I would like to keep my arrow weight between 550-600 grains and shoot a 175 head.

So help me out guys and I also am interested in footing my arrows with a short piece of aluminum shaft, and to be honest I don't have a clue as to how to do it.

Thanks

I shoot 59@30 LB and for me CX HEritages with 90-100 insert + 125 tip in 31,25 - 31,5 shoot great.
They are weighing in at 621 grain and have 17% Foc.

If you leave yours a bit longer and take alittle less insert weight (TOPHAt has some 60 grain alu inserts f.e.) you should come close to what you want.

That said i am no expert, only wrote because of our equal numbers in bows and my recent long testing tuning experience with great outcome.

And i dont know what these shafts will cost in the US, sorry.

Hope that helped

EDIT: just saw the 175 grain tips you like, then you could use the normal insert with full lenggth and it might work. Just my 2 cents

Edit 2: 32" with 14 insert and 175 front should be right according to STU Miller if you have B50 on it (591grain; 14,3 FOC)
And sometimes our dreams they float like anchors in hopeless waters oh way down here

beman ics bowhunter, 400 size, load the front end up.  for the price of those ics shafts, you'll have 2 dozen instead of 1 and they'll make for real fine arrows ...

585 grains of pig stickin' arrow ...

GT trad blem from Big Jim 7595 about 31.25”, 175 point plus 50 gr. brass insert, 589 gr. arrow, 17.5 FOC.

Beman Bow Hunter 300, 31.25”, 175 point and 50 gr. brass insert, 561 gr. arrow, 18.3 FOC.

Both are about $50 or so per dozen for shafts.  So far I think the GT is a little stronger than the Beman Bow Hunter, but close.

CE 350, 175 point, standard insert, 593 gr. arrow, 15% foc.   A lot more for the shafts, but great shaft.
