Hey Kasey. I just was looking at the jun/jul 2002 of TBM. TJ has an article on bowfishing, and about that type of rig used by Rob Davis.
He uses a rubber cup from like what you see on the bottom of crutches or a cane, to hold the soda bottle.

hey kasey real easy and cheap!if you have a threaded insert on your bow drill a hole in the bottle cap that a bolt will go through and screw it in then screw the pop or water bottle into the cap.try to find a bottle with a lower spot in the middle mt. dew has it this helps the line stay wraped around the bottle.slip knot the line around the neck of the bottle wrap the line around hook it to a bowfishing arrow and your good. if you dont have a threaded insert you could get a traditional gaget adapter and do the same.i also made a strap on adapter by bending 1/8 rod welding aplate to it with a nut welded to the plate and used great northern quiver straps.be careful and have fun.

I do almost like chad but instead of mounting the bottle cap use a rubber chair leg bottom or cane bottom. I leave the bottle cap on the bottle and just jam in it in the rubber chair leg bottom. The advantage is if your line gets caught on something or jammed it can pull off the bow OR if your fishing for something large it can pull it out and use the bottle as the float! I also fill my bottle with spray foam the less dense kind and either spray paint or wrap. it in colored tape so it's more visible than just another floating pop bottle. One other thing I tape a end of a paper clip or the cut end of a tie wrap so it's at the end of the bottle so you can use it as a line catch so you line just doesn't fall off the end of the bottle.
