Montana bound - again!
« on: April 17, 2007, 07:37:00 AM »
Uh oh.  Yesterday for the first time ever I had to send a check to Uncle Sam for my taxes, so our bank account took a hit.  The wife is still mad about those many thousands in application fees I sent out this year.  I also committed yesterday to another Alaskan bowhunting adventure, after some tense negotiations with my better half, who also pays the bills and worries about our finances.  I have to call the school principal today and let her know that I'm taking my son along and he'll miss the first week of school.

I said "don't worry, I'll never draw in Montana, Wyoming or Colorado this year".  Just found out.....I drew the Montana combo license again!

Can't wait to see this again..

I guess I'll wait till the right moment to break the news.......like when she is sleeping.  Then I'll wonder about those Wyoming and Colorado applications........(plus ME, VT and NH for moose).

This could be an interesting year!

You're going to have to get her another boy friend - one with more money this time!  :jumper:

Mickey, sorry that you guys didn't draw in Montana, maybe next year.  You could maybe get an OTC tag in CO or ID.  Hunting Ohio is now out for me this year, but I may bring Daniel up for the youth weekend at Faye's farm this fall - lots of good memories there and it is pretty cheap for youth hunters.  Your daily turkey photos are killing me, since we can't come up this weekend for the youth turkey hunt like we did last year.

No Idaho spring bear for me this year, Plumbob.  I already lost that battle months ago, but I still hold out hope for next year, once this storm blows over and she forgets........

Hey Jeff, I enjoyed meeting you in person and shooting with you and your family - don't tell anybody how bad I shot.  Guess I had better practice a lot this summer if I want to have some hero photos this fall!  By the way, on the way out on Sunday morning, Daniel and I shot about 30 targets and I was getting 10s left and right......when it didn't count!

Jeff,
Thats the way it goes.  I could not buy a kill zone on Saturday.  After listening to G. Fred on Saturday I went back to my old way of holding the bow last night at the house and really shot better.  I look forward to shooting with you again.

Jeff, There is more Beatle Kill in there than the last time I was there...wow.. I waited out a nasty thunderstorm down in that draw before crossing the saddle you are in taking the pic...

I hope we can suffer through a couple heavy pack loads of meat this September... I think my dad is going to be along also..we can hunt some together, maybe camp together.

Congrats Jeff! Looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing the pictures!!! I just found out that I did not draw Montana which was my big hope after crapping out in Wyoming. Maybe Utah?
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Sorry to those who didn't draw the deer/elk combo tag in MT - I didn't expect yhis tag but I certainly won't refuse a little drawing luck.  Bohunter, you probably know that you can pick up a leftover WY elk tag and nibble around the edges of some wilderness areas, if you MUST hunt bull elk in Wyoming this fall - I did that several years ago.  You might be able to pick up some leftover cow elk tags in some non-wilderness areas too.  You can also experience some pretty good OTC elk hunting in Utah if you don't draw a bull tag, in either cow/spike units or any bull units.  PM me if you want more info.

I shot about 50 arrows into my elk target tonight - this is the year for my first bull elk!

Congrats on the Montana tag!  Jeff and I are really looking forward to hunting with you and Daniel in Alaska.  When I asked Tina about going to Alaska again this year she said, you can't mount anything until you get a trophy room built. Had a couple contractors in so far and they hopefully will have it built by the end of June. Any good ideas on how to finish a 20'x30' room would be greatly appreciated. I'm just having it weathered in and I'll be doing the finishing.

Terry, have them build it in New Hampshire and I'll test it out for you.......once I get all the kinks worked out I'll let you know what you need in it!    :archer:    :goldtooth:
