«
on:

Hey guys, think I finally got my carbons flying right. Now would like to try wood arrows. Can you please help me with spine selection. I have two longbows.
48lb. at 26" draw with riser 1/8" short of center.
and
42lb. at 26"draw with riser cut 1/8" past center.
Any help would be appreciated. Jeff

My guess at your draw length would be to start with 40/45 spine. Leave just a bit long (28" to back of point) and see how they fly. If you need to stiffen a bit you can shorten a little.

David, are you suggesting that the 40/45 spine would work for both bow setups?

Tell us about the bows: Make, RC, LB R/D, string material- FF or B50.

They are both Abbott longbows. Mild R/D. Both have FF stings.

I agree with David above, 1 arrow for both should be your goal. Get a couple of 40/45 and 45/50 and see which set up will work for both. You can adjust length and point weight to suit.

get the test kit from 3rivers.. 35-40 to 50-55 2 arrow each spin. play with point weight one one arrow and/or cut just one of each spin till you find the right arrow.

The guys are steering you right. With a LB not cut to center, use an under spine arrow.

You will most likely find that with those two bows you will shoot well with a 50/55# spine arrow in a tapered arrow and 45-50# with a parallel , I would shoot the tapered , this is for a 125 grain point as well. I have shot several of Steve's bows and find they like 5# over bow weight and then add 5# for the fast flight.

I alway do well with an arrow 5 lbs over bow weight with a 28 inch arrow. I pull 27 inches.Standard 125 grain head.

I'd start with a 45-49 cut 28" w/ a 125 gr point. For the cost of postage, I can send you some test arrows. That will answer the question without question.
