My new idea!
« on: February 02, 2010, 03:43:00 PM »
I was thinking, yes that is wood burning you smell, I am gonig to turn my tree stand into my blind seat!!!

I have always disliked heights so I have decided to take the seat part of my tree stand and set it at a height where i am still on the ground and my legs are comfortable. Then I am going to build a blind around it. Then move it to another spot do the same thing. I will have several good pre made "portable" ground blinds!

I am sure I am not the first to think of this but in theory it should work, right?

Sounds perfect to me. Keep the wind in mind on your set ups and you'll be in good shape for fall.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

That sounds smart. I have a small seat like that, called a Bobcat, but am too lazy to carry it in. You might look into a do-it-yourselfer called a Torges tree seat.

Another thing that might work is a 5 gallon bucket  with the seat that fits in the top.
You sound like you are always thinking, and I hear that is one way to get closer to bringing home the deer.
I try not to think, and I haven't killed a deer in five years...

I think it is a great idea.I once shot a doe from a stand about a foot off the ground.I was in an overgrown weed field with only a few trees that were too small so I stayed low.I often use my nif-t-seat and hide in some some blowdowns. good luck

I have several permanent blinds, I use a double bull magnum tri-stool. Most comfortable chair I have ever hunted out of, lumbar support, can sit in them for 3-4 hours with ease, and I have a bad 50 year old back. I can buy them locally for $35, come with a shoulder strap for carrying, well made and light. Sam.

It a cool idea, but IMO I would leave the it together this way if snow or water is on the ground you can be an inch or two above it and have dry feet.Or you can let the platform touch the ground no leaves to crunch when you stand or move.

GOo for it I have done this for years.  Made a tree seat with rope around it that I believe was on this web site.  Works great.
