What is the rubber band on the quivers for?
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:28:00 PM »
I have noticed lately that there are archers out there that have a rubber band wrapped around the hood of their quivers. For example, see Robtattoo's pic at the top of the page...What is the purpose? I have seen Fred Eichler do the same with his Great Northern quiver. Can somebody please fill me in? Thanks, T

For coat sleeves I think.

a quick way to have an arm guard on hand if you have bulky sleeves on at the time. Just put a couple rubber bands over your forarm and you are set. DB

Xtrema is right. They are for bulky clothing on your bow arm.

For coat sleeves and to help keep the quiver from making noise

2. Finger tourniquets for hunting with those scary sharp broad heads
3. Tightening up the gaps in your quiver grippers
4. Holding your match stick sight pin in place
5. Holding your matchstick arrow holder in place
6. Shooting at your camera man
7. Shooting out of season game
8. Spare bow string
9. Keeping your eye lids open on day 5 in a row on stand
10. Non slip bow grip
11. Strapping the emergency survival snickers bar to you leg
12. Because George D. Stout got a case of them at GoodWill so you have to do something archery related with them.

Plus another 89 handy field uses for such a great little invention. I am sure we can come up with the other 89 uses with a little effort.  What about it?  Are you up to the challenge.   :D

Thanks fellas, I appreciate it. After 27+ years in the bowhunting arena, it is cool to learn something new. Perhaps I am up to the challenge. T

I am glad this question was asked. I also was wondering what the band was for. Thanks for the input.

The only reason I know was because Fred Eichler said it on Masters Of The Bare Bow III.  I never thought if it.  I think he said it works better than an arm guard on a heavier coat and you can't hook the back of it.

Everything up here in Southern sask. is Spot and Stalk I use em to put a piece of Sagebrush or Rosebush on my bow while stalking to break up my outline.Being doing it for years.

Use #13. Tourniquet for "you know what" when you gotta go and a Buck is coming up the trail.

Use #14. String Keeper for when the bow is unstrung.

Use #15. Wrap around the bow stringer to keep the loose ends from tangling.

Ahem.

 :D
I actually use them for a few of reasons.

First, I can slip a blunt or small game head under there for a quick point-change if need be,
Second, for loose clothes as previously mentioned & Thirdly because I'm  tightass & don't want to spend the money to replace my worn out quiver foam! The bands with a blunt under there compresses the old stuff enough to hold a broadhead in the hood!

Voilá.....

You never know when a rubber band will come in handy -- the really good ones come wrapped around broccoli in the supermarket. I generally wind up using them to attach tags, and they also work well for tying off the deer's ummmmmm orifice when you field dress them. Endless uses.

A thin one can be used to keep the animals mouth closed for the hero shot so you don't have the droopy mouth look.
