Vortex Binos..... Opinions
« on: February 09, 2010, 06:52:00 PM »
After decades of 100$ to 200$ glass i have decided to treat my self to a good pair of binos.

I have been looking for a while at the mid range stuff and am looking hard at the Vortex Razor 10X42. What do you all think of this glass. Its just over 750$

Vortex Razors are awesome. I had a pair of 8X42's. The only thing I didn't like about them was they weighed a bit more than my Eagle Optics Platinums (from the same company), and the eye cups tended to slide down every time I went to look at something quickly.

Other than that, you would be hard pressed to pay twice as much and get better glass. Their warranty is second to none, as well!

I have the cheaper Diamondbacks 10x42 and think they are great glass for the money.  Great customer service too have sent parts that broke from my fault quickly no questions asked and no charge.
More bows than I should have!

I've been using the 10x42 razors for the past 2 seasons.  They are good glass.  This fall the diopter mechanism was a little messed up.  I sent them in and a few days later a new pair showed up at my door.

I have read great things about them and was planning on buying them until through my research I found the Zen Ray ED2 reviews. I have read numerous reviews and comparisons and almost all of them place the Zen higher optically than the razor. Both are made in China and marketed in the U.S. by U.S. companies. The Zen Ray also has a lifetime warranty however being a newer company it does not have the track record yet and some fear what happens if they go out of business.Every review I read places it above any of the $1000 price range Binos.

Price for the Zen Ray is about $450 to your door.

I've used both the Razors & Vipers in 10X42, neither will let you down. I chose the Vipers because I like a bit smaller size for packing through the elkwoods. Both are crystal clear & bright, they gather an unreal amount of light. I agree, their warranty is unbeatable!

With binos you get what you pay for. Until you've used high end Zeiss, Swarovskis or Leicas you don't know what you're missing. There's a world of difference between these binos and others in the $750 to $1000 dollar range.

I use 10x42 razors.  I run with guys using similar leica's & my bird watching mother uses zeiss 10/42's.  I've had opportunity to side by side compare and I am really happy with the razors given the price difference.

The most apparent difference is in very low light situations and in situations where you picking out animals in heavy under growth and trees.

I absolutely love mine and when they say lifetime warranty they mean it.  I sat on mine and they broke right down the middle.  Sent them in and a brand new pair was at my door 2 days later.  They are awesomely clear and well worth the money.

It took me a lot of talking to my self to get to the point to commit to the 750$ to 1000$ range.     I have never looked through a pair that cost more than 250$ so i hope a jump to the mid range will be just as eye opening as a jump from the midrange to the top would be.

When I called to check on the warranty they said if I send a pair in for repairs, no matter, who, how or why they need repair they will fix them and have them back to me within 3 days of them receiving them! Pretty hard to beat that!

I use my Fury bino for a lot of night hunting Coyotes, pretty awesome at gathering that moonlight!
