How do you attach silencers? Do you tie the catwhiskers or yarn on side of string, or slip them between the strands and tie. What about the fur silencers? How do you attach them? Thanks so much.

I like the looks of cat whiskers wraped around the string and tied. I keep them in place with some cyanacrolate type glue. On a noisy bow I will cut them in half and install at the 1/3 and 1/4 positions.

I said wrap them around the string. Maybe the better way to explain it is to lay them parallel to the string then tie them to the string with some spare string material. Tie them very tight and they make a ball shape.

Wool puffs do silence the string, but where I hunt we have this thing called burrs. The quickly convert a wool puff into a matted ball of burrs that bear no resemblance to wool puffs.
I never tried string leeches, but cat whiskers do the job. They are also impervious to burrs and water, and they are cheap. They may not be perfect, but they are close enough.

I do like the looks of and ability to quiet a bow of the Wooly Whispers. The fact there made right here in my home state doesn't hurt either. But they are tied for first place when it comes to picking up all the burrs, lice and other junk we hunt in. Thats why I went to cat whiskers, I just got tired of picking out the trash.

Once I tried the hush puppies there was no going back to normal yern, fur, or cat whiskers! These things are incredible!

Traditional Bowhunter Magazine did a decibel study using many different string silencers. String leeches performed the best. Use two on top and two on bottom.
Also, padding the limb where the string hit worked better than wrapping the loop and string with wool in their study.
I think this was in the issue two months ago, but could have been three.
Just what I read,

The best combo I have come up with is Hush Puppies at the 4ths and a set of string leeches at 3rds. This set up on my Fox HIgh Seirra is dead quiet. I know I may be robbing some speed, but it is about as quiet as I think you can get a recurve, and I like that!
