limb crack...is this bad?
« on: February 13, 2010, 07:21:00 AM »
Guys I bought these sweet Kwyk Styk limbs 2nd hand and plan on making an all micarta riser for them.

Discovered this today at the bottom of the lower limb:

It's not looking like much, but I thought I better ask.
What do you think...could the crack get bigger?
Should I try to get some thin glue into it?

Thanks   :wavey:

Phil

That's not much of a crack and can easily be repaired. First sand the finish right over the crack and blow out any dust with an air hose.
Get the limb supported where the crack is flat and level and put some runny superglue on the crack.

You may want to mask off the area around the crack to keep the glue from running.

By the way, looking at that photo are you sure that's a bottom limb? It looks like one side is relieved like a top limb would be for a sight window.

maybe at one time it had the limb bolts over tightend ? if it were my limbs I would purchase a small syringe and some loc tite 420 and inject a little 420 right into the crack. That will pull the crack closed as the 420 dries and the 420 will also seal the crack so you should not need to add or remove any finish bd

Thanks Doc!

I'll give that a shot.

Lamey, I can't really see if the crack goes into the Bocote. It defenately doesn't go into the Bamboo or glass.

Loc tite 420
You need to seal the crack, don't want moisture in there.
The Loc tite may bubble some, go lightly.
