« on: February 17, 2010, 08:10:00 PM »
I saw advertised somewhere  Steel - Carbon Shaft Inserts for FOC weighting.
Does anybody know where they are available?
Like these but steel.

Not long ago someone posted about a new steel adapter for glue on heads.

I would think that a threaded steel insert would, over time, have lots of problems with corrosion and such. With some of the screw in adapters I have that have been left on arrows for a while, mostly judos, they just bind up and I cannot get them off....even after soaking them in WD40. Now the one piece insets that Richie Nell has posted look very interesting to me.

Rob, I have used the PDP weight system in my aluminum arrows with great success.  I didn't know they made an insert that would fit the carbon arrows.  You have the same issue with corrosion mentioned above though.  If you impatient like me, when you finish gluing in an adapter I dip the thing in a glass of water to cool it down.  I think that water seeps into the shaft and the steel-to-steel contact starts to rust a little.

VA Bowbender has it.  Much more versatile than a XXX grain insert.

I started out with the intent of making our Muzzy inserts out of SS but they just ate up tooling too fast to maintain consistency on the parts, so we switched over to brass and they work great, much stronger then aluminum and plenty strong for an insert.  I do still have some of the prototype SS inserts but they are in some arrows.
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

If I understand what these are, you already have your insert in your shaft then screw these into the insert then your broadhead into these?

I am thinking of something more like what BadgerArrow is speaking of, something for a glue on type broadhead but for a carbon shaft. I have a few converter tips that will take me from a wood shaft to a screw on broadhead made of what I believe is aluminum. I don't much care for them.

Mudd. I think those screw into the back of the insert. I have a long allen wrench to go in from the nock side. You can add or take away weight as needed. They are good for adding weight but the more you stack them the farther away from the point they get. It takes more to change the spine that way in carbon arrows.  I prefer using heavy heads. Ymmv.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.
