When is a longbow too long

I'm 5'6" & owned a 66in. Black Swan. Great shooter & a nice looking bow. But, I was always wondering where my limb tips were. I believe it was all in my head cause I was shooting Mudd's 70" Hill bow from his back porch & never had a second thought about the limb tips. Traded off the Swan to Jeff Strubberg for a 58" Thunder Stick Mag. & it fits like a glove. I guess it's like FerretWYO said.

1) When you don't have a truck or van.

2) When you shoot in your basement.

3) When you're clumsy. Then the tips take a beating going through doors and what not.

Otherwise, I don't have a problem. I'd like to have a 64" R/D for more confined ground hunting conditions.

I agree with Rob S. on the short Bow,as it's much more universal and for all Hunting styles.
Don't get me wrong,I Love the the longer Bows for just Shooting.If money is not an issue,I say own them all!! I have killed my share of Big Game Animals with the Robertson 66" and 68" Longbows in every Hunting situation!

i am 5' 9" and love my 68" bows and have no problem with them its what ever feels best to you i have had several different lengths of bows over the years and prefer the longer ones

Well, I guess you could tie a string on the end and do some fishing, if ya ain't seeing no game.  

Maybe, lay it across a creek to cross, if it's too deep.....or better yet you could pole vault across.   :p  

Seriously, for me I like the shorter bows. I like'em 62" and less.

I've been back and forth between a 66" and a 62" A&H ACS. I like the manuverability of the 62" but the 66" is more forgiving and therefore (for me) more accurate.. I have a set of 64" limbs on the way to try next. Still searching for my perfect setup > Take care Randy

To long? For me the only times would not be a problem, my 68 inch bow is a take down.

Airplane travel, small blinds, etc... can all call for a short bow.

I just carry mine tucked in tight to my body with the bow upright when moving thru brush.

when  it looks more like a flagpole than a bow...lol....seriously, I dont think there is such a thing as too long in a longbow...they're supposed to be long...some guys I know think anything under 70" is not a longbow!

I think when you can't reach the tip when it's vertical,If you can shoot good with it shoot it.

I didn't see it mentioned here,my problem with a bow that is on the lengthy side, is stringing them. Whether using a bow stringer or the push-pull,anything over 66" becomes a problem for my lower back.Herniated and bulged discs work much better with a shorter bow.

monkeyball,if you use a stringer spread your feet farther apart for the longbows and its less pull for you.

After getting Mudd's 70"er, I have a 68" on order and will be getting another 68 or 69"er.
