Questions About Clickers

I've got some questions about clickers.  I'm really struggling with my shooting.  I know that the target panic I suffered with when I shot compounds is a major contributor to the problem. I also know that the lack of strenght in my left shoulder after major surgery a year ago is also taking a toll on my shooting.  Right now I'm shooting a 41# hybrid and it's about all I can handle.  I've found that I can't hold anchor, and sometimes I can't get to anchor.  For reasons that I don't understand, I'll release the arrow before I'm set.  It's like I'm in a hurry for some reason.  Will a clicker help me to slow down and get set in my anchor before I shoot?  Are they hard to adjust to?  Will either of the two clickers offered by 3Rivers do what I need, or are there others that work better?  Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

i ordered a clickety Klicker from 3 rivers about a month ago because i had the same problem of not getting to full draw before i release.  it worked like a charm and has taught me to use my back muscles to expand until i hear the click.  its easy enough to adjust and comes with instructions.  i added some tape to my limbs to protect them from the metal bead chain until i had it adjusted. then i cut the excess chain off and removed the tape.

I'd say right off hand a clicker and the bow your now shooting won't help you.  It takes more strength to make a clicker go off if adjusted correctly.  My suggestion would be to drop 10 lbs for practice.

Clickers are the bomb for what you are talking about.  I use them regularly on some of my bows.  I remove the chain and replace it with string to keep it from banging up my limb finish.  I don't tie it to the bow string but just pull a short piece through the string and serve above and below with dental floss to keep it from slipping when I unstring my bow. Tension on the string keeps it in place when you're shooting. It makles it real easy to fine tune for draw length as well.  Either the Cricket or Clickety Click will work--they're basically the same, one has just a bit longer base than the other. Bowmania has a point however, a clicker makes you work harder to get the shot off.  You wind up holding longer and using your back muscles more.  The weight factor might come into play there for you.  You may need to pick up a lighter bow to shoot and work on form. Hope it works OK for you.

I don't think I have target panic (haven't been shooting long enough, lol). Clickers have helped me achieve a consistant draw length which has greatly improved my form and accuracy. I would recommend trying one. If it's not the solution your only out $15.  As mentioned above watch out for the chain, it scuffed up my limb pretty quick. I use D loop material which works great.

Yes have used clickers for many years for the same problems, not getting to anchor, short drawing and snap shooting, have helped me to develop an anchor and hold as well, has definitely improved my shooting.  I take the chain off as well and just use some 200# spectra braided line.  Clickers do add some weight to pull thru the clicker and some are lighter then others, the longer base clicker has seemed to be the lightest for me and only adds about 3-4# of weight to pull thur, 1 of my shorter based clickers went up almost 8# to pull thru.

If you used to shoot compound you might consider pulling out a release.  I tried one with my recurves as a simple training tool.  It doesn't release unless you pull the trigger. It helps me if I get a little twitchy and then I can switch back to my tab and I'm fine.  The clickers will help but I definitely get the masters of the bare bow III tape. It is a must for curing target panic issues. Lean your shot sequence and don't let the guy in the front (aiming) start checking on the guy in the back (doing the shot sequence).  Can't do two things well at the same time. Hence target panic or just screwed up shot.  

Definitely need to be working on some rotator cuff strengthening exercises to get that shoulder back in shape. Pain is a big distractor in shot sequence too.  Go to Physical Therapy if you haven't already.

I never had a clicker add any draw weight to my bows.  Never heard tell of that before.

I just ordered one, didn't figure on it adding any weight to my draw.  I sure hope not.

The clicker and blank bale method have been effective for me trying to control the dreaded disease.  I use the clicker from time to time if I find myself not taking the time to aim and just snap shooting.  Dropping draw weight 10-15lbs is also very sound advice to practice form and shot control. That's a first for me also. I've been shooting them for almost 20 years now on all my bows. I can pull through the click on a bow scale, and my bows read the listed weight.
