last night i was out and about on the mountain and heard a gobble from the upper fields, i went up witht the binos to check it out. as i got to the edge of the field i heard a gobble and lied down on my stomach. a rustling in the leaves got closer as a huge tom approached me all alone. he was maybe 40 yrds of, i had no call, no camo, and it was 9 days till open season...i cant do squat. so i figured what the heck and made sure no one was looking and then proceeded to try my best to sound like a hen yelp with my mouth...it was horrendouse. however the tom gobbled back mid yelp, i tryed again with the same result. i closed the distance to a mere 10 feet away then promply stood up and told the tom "i would have had you", he looked rather embarresed made several nervouse clucks and proceeded to run away. just thought i should share cuz this doesnt happen to often, least not to me. they're funny birds. next time you maKe a bad note keep calling, cuz it will sound more like a turkey than i did, believe me!
