What do you like best a long or short riser
« on: March 01, 2010, 01:51:00 PM »
I am talking mild R/D longbows with different type handles for D bows. Some have a short riser and long limbs, some longer riser with shorter limbs.

Long Risers. Because of my low anchor point, I need a lot of sight window.

I favor the short handle and long limbs myself, smooth and quiet shooting. I have another bow with a med riser with med long limbs, that shoots real accurate, but not has quiet, as the long limbs bow.

Short riser, long limbs.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

Both of my 66" take down recurves have a 19" riser. So, short riser and long limbs for recurves is also my preference.

Short Riser and Long Limbs for me too. I think that it makes for a smoother draw.

I know you asked about LB's, but I'm receiving my new "longer" riser (recurve), next month.  I wanted the longer (2" longer) riser for one reason.......extra mass weight.

I hope I'm getting the best of both worlds.  I have the same length limbs ordered as I have on my "shorter" riser.  I'm hoping the added mass weight will make a more solid feeling bow in my hand (and I have NO issues with the current riser).

Great question.  The replies are informative.

I'm like BobCo 1965 as I have a low anchor point and need all the sight window I can get. Even with that I still have to look thru the riser/limbs at less than 20 yards and that requires both eyes.  Ben
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I like the shorter riser as well on the mild R and D longbows. Most of them do have slim, steamlined and relatively shorter risers. They just look better that way IMO.Seems like a natural look for that style bow.Makes for a nice lightweight bow with an almost wand like feel.Thats nice and makes for a pleasurable bow to carry!

On a 3 piece bow,or recurve  I would probably not be as inclined to prefer a short lightweight riser. But on that style bow shorter, streamlined and lighter in the hand is what I have always liked and preffered
