Acquired two 1970's recurves
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:28:00 PM »
First is a 54 inch,48#,Browning Safari, in good shape with only hunting scratches, unfortunately drilled for a quiver.I think the sting is too short as brace height is 9.25 inches from the deepest part of the grip. Can anyone advise for proper string length?
Second is a 45#,58inch,Damon Howatt Bandito with only minor scratches. This also needs a string due to wear but the length looks good with a 7.5 inch brace height.
I think one will be my son's and one will be a bowfishing rig.
These seem like decent quality bows from the local sporting goods store mid 1970's. Looks fun to me. Any advise or knowledge shared is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Drop 4" from the length of the bow and that should be your string length.

Both are nice bows, but getting harder to find. Sometimes the D&H were higher pounds than marked but I would pick one of those up in a second if I had a chance. Good quality and longevity.

I do not know for sure, but that is a high brace height. Try 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 as a starting point. My Kmags do pretty good around 8 1/4.
