Alright guys....what's your thoughts on these broadheads?  Are they worth $79.00 for 3 heads?

Is a custom bow worth $1200+? Is a custom knife worth $750+? Are super straight kevlar shafts worth $15 each?

I'm not trying to be a wise acre but I think only you can truly answer that question. If it's worth it to you, then it's worth it...period. If it's not, then somebody is probably not going to be able to convince you. Probably the only way you'll really be able to find out is to put your hands on them and then decide for yourself.

By the looks in their pictures, they do look like exceptionally well built heads. Lots of great options for really fine broadheads these days.

JC - I agree that I will be the only one to decide if I'm happy with the heads for the $80 bucks.

I was just reaching out for some input of anyone who may already have purchased them before i decided whether or not I wanted to shuck out the $80 bucks to put my grubby little hands on them.

Thanks

Michael

Well that's a lot of money for broadheads.  But on the other hand I'll go with JC.  I find it real funny when someone is packing a $1300 bow and shooting cheap arrows and .50 broadheads they got at a garage sale.

It's the arrow and broadhead that do the job.

For my money I'd look at the other heads in that quality bracket and make my decision based on that.

Abowyer comes to mind as another top end 2 blade single bevel.

I agree with JC, only you can make that decision. But it definitely stings more to lose one of these than a Zwickey.    :D   RP

Michael, I'll bet if you told ABS up front that you were undecided and that you wanted to look at them they would let you order and return them unused if you were unhappy.

That's pretty good service.  I'll give them a call.  Do you know if they have a screw-in head in the 150 grain range.  I looked at their web page but could not tell.

IMO, that is way too much money. You can get a dozen Magnus, Zwickeys, STOS, Woodsmans, ect., for less, and they will kill just as good.

Michael, they list the 150gr screw-in on their website (100 to 200gr in 25 grain increments).  They are good folks to deal with.

There are some circumstances where the best broadheads should be used, but for most hunting situations, just about any good broadhead will work. I have about $750 worth of the ABS Ashby broadheads, and for large, dangerous animals they are worth the expense. For deer, hogs, turkeys, elk, etc., a broadhead that costs 1/4 or less of the price of a $30 Ashby, Nanuck, Samurai or Silver Flame will get the job done. For Asian buffalo, cape buffalo, hippo, elephant, brown bear or other big, bad animals $30 is a cheap way of helping to be sure you get the best result possible. If you are spending $15,000 or more on a hunt, why worry about the cost of $30 broadheads? So, what are you hunting? The real question you should be asking is not whether the broadheads are worth the price (they are) but instead whether you need that kind of broadhead for the task you want to accomplish.

I have had some of 200gr Samurai heads since last Spring. I harvested several critters with them and recovered/resharpened all the heads so still have the whole half dozen I started out with. Overall they are nice heads I have tried not to like them but the are my favorite broadhead I have owned yet. The high price does suck so I tend to carry cheaper broadheads for small game and stuff.

If I was shooting a $15 kevlar shaft and a $30 broadhead, I would only dare to shoot at deer in the middle of a plowed field.  The one thing I have noticed about the shooting pattern of my friends when they went to carbon arrows is that all of sudden they stopped hunting small game and stopped taking practice shots in the woods.  One was even afraid of getting a passthrough shooting towards switchgrass.  A prize $50 arrow for one is a quiver full of homemade cedars to another, all depends on what makes it fun I guess.

I have not tried the Samurais but found the Nanooks very noisy in flight. As far as price, I believe that I got my moneys worth from other expensive broadheads. When you draw back on a moose, the last thing you think about is money. Must admit though that my current favorite broadhead is the Abower Brown Bear which is cheap in comparison.
