Question on shafting?????

I had a bunch of pine shafts that are in bad shape and many lost over time. So time for new better cedar shafting. I have quite a few bows that are 45# draw weight. My draw is 29" and I usually use 100grn to 125grn tips. I may use short 2 1/2" feathers and 4" feathers Do I buy shafts in the 40# to 45# or 45# to 50#? Thanks Ed

If you cut your arrows at 30" you would be in the ballpark with 45-50 with a 100gr point and 50-55 with a 125gr point! That combo should work well, a little more info on bow particulars and id have a little more insight! Like recurve, longbow, selfbow, B50 or FastFlight string, centershot cut rest! But you should be ok if its a modern type bow with what i have given you!

Thanks Travis here is some more info. The bows that I shoot in the back yard that would be used with these arrows are all recurves. They are all b-50 flemish twist. A few off the top of my head are ,Redwing hunter 45# 58amo, Bear kmag 45# amo52", Bear Grizzly 45# 58amo The arrows that I currently shoot out of them are about 29" from knock vally to back of feild point. They are just a hair over 29 1/2" from taper to taper.

Ok.. Thats what i figured you meant(29" from nock groove to BOP)! The good things with recurves is they will shoot well with a little bit stiffer arrow and also a little weaker spined arrow! Playing with braceheight is an excellent game to play when shooting a new arrow out of your bow! Its best done with a chronograph, but a seasoned shooter will be able to tell when he has found the "Sweet Spot"! Also having somebody watch the arrow flight dynamics when you are doin that also helps! The extra half inch wont be a big deal on the spine, but if you are losing a half inch your FOC will go up a bit and make for a good shooting/hunting arrow! Good luck!

So do I buy a load of 40# to 45# or 45# to 50#? It is still not clear to me from the response.

Personally....I shoot 5/16 Shafts, cut to 29.5, with constant 125 gr. tips, and I havent had Any Issues. They shoot well out of ALL of my 45 to 58 lb. Bows. Be they LongBows or 'Curves! Maybe I am just lucky.

So what was the spine range of the 5/16ths shafts? I have a load of fibreglass 5/16ths shafts.

It would be either the 45-50 with the 100gr or the 50-55 with the 125gr! Id go with the 50-55, its a pretty safe bet, and itll cover you if you decide to shoot an odd weight head like the 135gr Zwickey Delta 4 blade!

Ed, I'm pretty sure the bows you mentioned are all cut to center.  For a 29" BOP arrow, I'd recommend a 50-54 lb spine.

I have a dozen nice tapered Surewood Fir shafts just crying to be made into arrows.

I would suggest the Surewood shafts also, nice and straight matched spine and wts.
