Opions on Wapiti bows
« on: March 08, 2010, 05:33:00 PM »
I've made a trade on the classifieds for a Chastain Wapiti take down and was wandering what some of you owners of one of these bows thought about them. I have never shot one but am very excited to get the chance own one. It is 60" 64#@28"

Keith Chastain makes a great bow.  I've owed mine since 1987.  Some people do not like the finish he uses, but he makes them for hunting and the finish is not shiney.  Also Rick Duggan used a Wapiti to be the first to take all 28 NA species (Super Slam) with a recurve.  However, Fred Eichler got the 29th species when they added the Tule elk to the mix.  I believe Rick still needs the Tule to complete.

All in all you will be very happy with a Wapiti TD.  They are smooth shooting and fast.

How can you tell if a Wapiti is FastFlight or not?

Awesome bows. You'll be happy with it.

On a Fast Flite limb Keith reinforces the limb tip with fiberglass or micarta.

As Bernie said the tips are reinforced.  One thing that Keith has said is that with his bow's (limb design) he does not see much improvement with fast flight.  He offers it as an option.  Having a B50 string on mine I do not feel disadvantaged.
