YESSS ! the new EL Grande are 200 grs

according to the people who get them already here in France, they are more easy to sharpen than before because of a better angle ... i just order a pack

I shot a young wild boar with a ABOWYER "Brown Bear" this year ...  this Broahead have a kind of separated and like welded ferrule from the blade and i don't like it to much ... plus, i odered them with a "grey teflon coated" pictures on the ABW website and finaly recieved them olive green colour without teflon and a bit rusty to ... but,  They are good and nice stuff, the point have to be just a little bit grinded to be 100 % strong,

but i definitly prefer the Grizzly ... don't ask me why, it's probably not rational !

i'd like also to try a tusker !

in double bevel you should think about STOS 160 also, really strong and so easy to sharpen !

The new 200 grn grizz doesn't have the "step" where it goes from double think to single thick anymore.
The blade is ALL double thick.
The ABOWYERS are tough. They do have a separated ferrule from the blade. They are welded though and the welds look really good. The abowyer is THE toughest looking head I've seen. The blade is much thicker the the new grizz. The abowyers do cost more..is it worth it???...thats for you to decide.

The new El Grandes have done away with the step,as stated and the edge is ground to 25 degrees vs 30 on the old ones.It is also a better grind than before. The ferrule is also more accurate and the new Grizzlies also come in left and right bevel.

I believe they are also in 130 and 160.

I used the ACE express 200gr.. When I was setting them up I tested one out of my back door... Well I aimed for a leaf about 10yds away.... I shot and the arrow struck with a solid thud but didnt penatrate deep...

When I retrieved the arrow I found that behind the leaf was a covered brick... The shaft of the arrow was bent but the ACE was just a lil dull with a slight of set to the blade.....

One tough broadhead!!!!!!

I'm biased- I shoot Grizzlies- have for many years. The new 200's with the single plane metal would be better for first timers to try-

I believe the reason so many people have trouble sharpening a grizzly is not because its a single bevel but rather-

ITS BECAUSE THE STEEL IS HIGH ROCKWELL HARDNESS

Otherwise you wouldn't hear people say they wore out a file on three heads.

The sharpest thing on the planet is a chisel properly sharpened. Or perhaps a sushi knife. They both have one thing in common- single bevel.

Combine that with a higher rockwell hardness steel and you have an edge that will keep - an edge that won't dull as much when it rubs on bone on the way through- an edge that won't need much work on a week long hunt in humid/wet conditions like where most moose live in to keep it where you want it.

A moose hunt takes a lot of treasure to go on typically- whichever head you choose, get it sharp, and practice so everything will be automatic when crunch time comes, because I'd like to see a picture on here next fall with you and a big "ugly" !!!!

I shot one of the ACE 160 standards into a cinder block once just for fun, it stuck but did not bend the tip. I sharpened it up and it was fine. I think that triple layered tip with the interlocking ferrule is a good design as far as strength goes.
I heard great things about the Abowyers.

they rust very quickly I confirm...when I recieved mine (bone head) they were oil covered..I swept one with aceton and a part of the teflon coating has immediately gone...curious!

they are very tough BH but the end of the point need to be filed to become stronger.

on the pic, one can see the new point I should have to do on my training blade after a strong penetration's test which had destroyed the extremity! (plywood and foam)
