Tips on cleaning out BH ferrules?
« on: April 25, 2007, 06:07:00 PM »
Any tips for cleaning the Ferr-l-tite out of some previously mounted Eskimos and Magnus II 2 blades.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Hold the head with pliers over a flame until the glue dissolves.

If you are puting them on another arrow, just heat them and reuse. Alan

Put them in boiling water for a little bit and then clean the ferrule with paper towel, steel wool (000), or a .30 cal bore brush.

Any time you "burn out" old glue, you're gonna make residue that's danged hard to get out of there. Slow and easy works.  ;)

I had to do that just a couple days ago. My solution was to put bronze bore brush in my cordless drill. A few seconds per head, and they cleaned right up. I needed to put screw-in adapters in my Magnus heads.

Toss them in a can of acetone or laquer thinner overnight.

Use a propane torch on low flame. Hold the heads by the tip with pliers and heat the ferrule. Take Q-tips and twist them into the ferrule down to the end and take them out. You can also wipe the walls of the ferrule. I always turn the Q-tip around and do it a second time. You can see the glue come out and when the Q-tips come out clean, you know you got it all. Quickest and cleanest way to do it.

Why?
I just heat and reuse.
