Joebuck's Wooden Hen
« on: March 26, 2010, 11:16:00 AM »
Joebuck listed one of his Wooden Hen scratch-box turkey calls for sale recently, and I bit. I have to say that I've never had a call that sounded any better than this one before, and I've had lots of turkey calls. I found it to be easy to learn to make the basic yelps and clucks, and Joey supplies it with multiple strikers to get different tones. The clucks are the best I've ever heard. I can't wait to get it in the woods! My wife has threatened to throw me out if I keep practicing in the house.     :)

Thanks, Joey!  Hope you have fun at PBS this weekend. I want another one of those calls for a friend.

Boys at the PBS missed the boat. Got one of Joey's scratch calls too. First few attempts I was ready to send it back BUT I read the instructions and started over. Hold it loosely and let it talk, it sounds grrrreat. NY turkeys are in trouble in May.

Joey-
That lecture you gave for PBS was fantastic, it was by far one of the most informative and definitely the funniest of any of the daytime seminars. Thanks for 'fixin it up rite'. I may have to start giving Mississipians more of a break.

Thanks David......i really enjoy doing them. I wished i had more time to talk and demostrate more on calling, especially on mouth calls and calling on pressured birds. My only regret was my 2 young sons did not get there till late friday night after school and missed it....us MS boys need a break!.....Pikeville,TN...you know my brother Doug Besherse?

David, I don't think those Mississippi calls will work on SC birds. All I could call up with mine here in GA. was 2 game wardens.

There are no birds on my place this year so far, but I'm going up to Missouri for the opener in a couple of weeks, and I'll give that Wooden Hen a workout up there. Biggie, I sure hope it works outside of Mississippi! Guess I better take a backup, just in case...
