Arrow wraps and bareshaft tuning
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:16:00 PM »
Just got some new arrows, GT Trads 1535's.  I have to shoot them full length because of my draw length.  No big deal, I always just tune with point weight.  I'm going to use arrow wraps on these arrows and have never used or tuned with them before.  Do you guys bareshaft tune with a wrap on?  Will their light weight not make any real difference in tuning? I know that any weight at the back of the arrow will increase the spine, and I'm thinkin' it could not hurt to tune with the wrap on right?  Thanks....Reaper

I use a ten inch wrap and clear over wrap and they add up to 10 grains. I do bareshaft with them on.

Always bareshaft with all the stuff you plan to put on the final arrows, including the wraps.

I bareshaft with the wrap, the wrap stiffens the spine.

Definetly will stiffen the spine.  So will the feathers so you want to get it to shoot slightly weak with a bare shaft

I also shoot GT 1535's and I bareshaft them always with a wrap. In Stu millers calculator you can see what it does too.....

By the way: I also use GT's weight system with the wrench. Works absolutely great for fine-tuning. I bearshaft till 30 yards.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

I always bare shaft with the wraps on.  Take a close look at the wraps while tuning to make sure there are no contact marks/screpes on them that may indicate clearance/nock height issues.

I weigh the wrap and feathers that I'm going to use on a grain scale.

I then cut a piece of electrical tape that weighs the same and put that on the tail end of the arrow and then do my bareshaft testing.
