another skull guessing game
« on: March 27, 2010, 11:03:00 AM »
I was out doing a little stumping and I found this animal. I found the whole thing so I know what it is. I cleaned up the skull, so lets have fun.

I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

It's a member of the weasel family.I think too flat topped to be a skunk.I think too big for a weasel.Mink?

I think it is an otter.   i boiled one from this past bow season and made a skull mount of it and it looks identical to yours.

I was so impressed with the thickness of the lower jaw bones....man they got some power in their jaws.  The one i shot bit my GT Traditional arrow in 3....he reached back and bit it at the top of his back and under his belly and left me with three pieces of my arrow.

OK....just noticed the big old quarter in the pic....my otter skull is much bigger than that..but the shape is near identical.

Sorry...i would think it is a mink or some other smaller animal.

Sorry.

He already gave the answer on the first page-mink.Pine martens look very similar but PA doesn't have any.Weasels look like that too but the big long tails top out at about 2".I think a quarter is close to an inch,so that skull is probably app. 2 1/2" or so.
