Martys first 300 count thread
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:58:00 PM »
A while ago there was a thread posted on this fine forum about a fine member named Marty who was known not only as a fine cook, a fine host, a fine hunter, a fine friend but most of all one of the most notorious thread killers on the site! To make Marty feel a little better a plan was designed to get a Marty thread over 300.  All be it, it was a bribe!  Poster # 300 won a Hog trip to a fine hog hunting location in Florida near Okeechobee. Well, One of the little bribes in the thread was a bow.

Today March 29th a piece of UNOBTANIUM that I have been waiting for for almost a month made its way to my door.  Hence begins the "Marty 300 Build along."   The Build along will be on the bowyers bench so if you are interested in the progress of Ferretts bow come on over and check out the "Marty 300 build along"

here are some pics of the UNOBTANIUM.

to see more than that you are just going to have to jump to the Bowyers Bench Forum and look us up there. And yes the wood is...   :bigsmyl:

difficult is a relative term.  Challenging from a materials perspective.  That is all.  By the way I am shaping yur riser as I type.  I am wearing blue nitril gloves to work with this stuff.  Being related to Superman the unobtanium might just get me!  Ferret I think you are gonna like!

Now that's a nice combination.  Can't wait to see it up close.  May be we should field test it before Randy gets to Okeechobee.  I know a few spots we could try.

Randy I know the picture says 6/09 but it was about this wet last weekend when I was filling feeders.

Heck, if I'd have known all Marty needed a 300 post thread for me to get a hunt at his place I'd have gotten him a 600 post thread for 2 hunts!   :bigsmyl:

Looks like that will be one purdy bow.

Randy what is your draw length and what length arrow do you like. What weight is Pete aiming for. I will make sure I have up some carbons so he and I can make up a couple for a test drive. What weight BH do you use.

I use carbon express heritage arrows and have both 2 or 3 blade Magnus 125g BH available, and can play with inserts and weight rings.

Randy,  that is good advice.  There are times that I think I would feel safer sleeping in a gator hole than at  camp!  And remember the only good 3d target to shoot at is the turkey!
