Broadhead question (screw in)

When I get broadheads down the road, will I be better off to get one that comes with a factory installed adapter, or buy the adapters and glue on's seperate? Lookin at Zwickey Delta's and No Mercy's. I only want the 170 gr. weight. Just curious if the factory installed ones are any good.

One other quick question, will the Delta's sharpen on a KME? I know thought I read somewhere they have a "swept" edge but I can't tell that good from the 3R pictures.

Might check out what kind of adhesive is used on the factory installed inserts.  If hot melt glue is used , you can always redo them easily.  More difficuot if epoxy is used.

Zwickey Deltas have a little concaveness in the middle third of the blade.  To get a perfectly straight edge along its entire length, I usually find I need to work a bit of the triple laminated tip down a little with a file before I put them on a sharpening block.  Once at that state, the KME would do nicely.  It would probably take down the tip as needed as well, but would involve more work and will wear out the stone more quickly.

Nothing "wrong" with the factory versions, but I think you'll find doing it yourself will give you more versatility down the road.

After doing some reading, sounds like it's better to use glue ons with adapters in general. Align better and a bunch of other stuff. So I'll go with that. May look at some lighter heads also.

Eskilite's or Eskimo's maybe?

Quite a few years ago I purchased some Eskimo's with the inserts pre-installed.  Some of these would spin true...others not so much.  

I'd recommend using hot melt and the steel inserts and doing your own - better control of alignment, and more options when tuning or for creating a heavier broadheads.  You can get the steel inserts in several different weights now.

imo and as others have suggested, it's always best to make up yer own screw-ins - far more versatile as you can change the front end weight by using different adapter weights from 25 grains to 125 grains.
