PA Turkey opener
« on: April 27, 2007, 06:00:00 PM »
Any other guys headed out in the morning for the PA spring gobbler season?  All of the guys from other states have been posting up a storm with their success stories..... hope to post shortly. =) Seems like our season opens fairly late compared to other states.

Superkodiak,

I will be out bright and early Saturday.  This is my first serious attempt at turkey hunting.  I took vacation next week, so I'll be out some.

Good luck to all the Keystone Gobbler Hunters!

went out this morning... when I was heading in I met two nice fellas hunting with shotguns... one commented on me taking a recurve.... found out he owns a black widow! another traditional hunter. =)  Made a very enjoyable hike in as we talked.  Heard about 30 gobbles this morning, boy were they all fired up!  most were on the other ridge across the river, but I did have a jake come in to about 40 yards before he was wisked away by a cute little hen. Any guys have any luck out there?

Hit the game land here, parking lot was full! Heard a couple hens, no gobbles.  Back at vehicle met a shotgunner who shot a nice bird, about 18lbs.  He biked back game land road about 3 miles near turnpike, seems that's where everybody's hearing them.  Looks like I'm getting my cardio in this week.  The game commission locks the gate to the road back to this area, then opens it for archery season through small game, but doesn't open it for srping turkey??

Only in Pennsylvania!

Not much excitement today, but it sure was better than going to wok!

My son shane harvested his first gobbler this morning. It was only his second time out. We heard several birds got three to come in. He opted for his 20 ga. over his bear grizzley. It was a great day with a fine bird for the table. TD.

Congrats to you and shane, Tim.  A turkey in PA is a prize no matter what weapon!  I've never gotten one yet!  But it sure is fun trying.

went out this morning a little later than I wanted.... was greeted by a gobble once I left the truck.  then another.... and another..... I saw the bird roosted not even 50 yards off the road, I had to sneak past him to get to the spot I wanted.... I knew he would eventually make it there. At about 10:30 here comes Tom turkey, head all white and blue and gobblin and struttin the whole time..... silly bird hung up at about 25 yards in just enough brush that I didn't feel comfortable to shoot.... he gobble for about 20 minutes before he left.... oh well, maybe next time... he did put on quite the show. =)
