A couple bow fishing questions

Hey guys i was just wondering how you would attach the muzzy point to a bow fishing arrow, and i was also wondering how many of you guys use the ams safety system when bow fishing.

I use 90 min epoxy and let them sit overnight. Yes the safety slides are wonderful.

Slides are great, use them. Epoxy the heads on, wait for it to cure, go shoot fish!

I always use the safety slide system on all mine and Joe's fishing arrows. Gorilla glue works great for attaching the points on fishing arrows, just ruff up the shaft with sandpaper I ruff up the inside of the point also. clean the shaft and point with alcohol or acetone, then dampen them with water, apply a little gorilla glue put them together and let them dry over night. You can also use it to fasten the nocks on, it is tuff stuff and will hold up to a lot of abuse.

Yes, like the others, I have used epoxy, 5-min., and slow set. Also have used in the past hot melt types, no problems. Just like any glue up, make sure you have a good clean and roughed up surface!

I shoot alot in rocky creeks, where the arrows take a beaten! One thing I would recommend to carry if shooting in rocky or hard bottom areas, is extra nocks and some glue. I have had a few pop off over the years, always when the shooting is great.

Yes, the safety slides are great. One of the best things to have along with a good pair of polarized glasses!   :cool:

Epoxy. no need to buy the higher priced 2 ton stuff the cheaper stuff is fine. The slides work great for keeping the string in front of you. I sometimes get the fealing tho that tieing off in the back stabilizes the shaft way better but it is better to be safe than sorry. Yes Polorized glasses are a must try to keep the sun to your back it helps you to pierce the water better with your eyes.

I use JB Weld for attaching points to shafts, mostly because I have so much of it laying around.  I dont buy the AMS slides anymore. Started making my own slides.  I love the AMS reel, though!

You can also drill through the back hole in the point,and the arrow shaft and run a pin through it.Really helps to keep them on.

Hey Robert,
I always use q-tips dipped in denatured alcohol to clean the points out prior to adhesion.  This helps get any oils out left over from tooling.  Also helps to rough up the arrow surface some, then wipe it down with alcohol as well.  I use marine two part expoxy and let it cure for 24hours.  I know it sounds like a hassle, but its neccessary for the type of fish I hunt.  Hope this helps!

i do what littlejake does. epoxy, then after it's set i pin it with a piece of 2mm stainless steel welding rod which also gets epoxied. i just don't trust my hard work and effort in getting a fish with a point that's only glued on.

Yep, same here. Epoxy then use a tiny roll pin. I also keep a PVC tube (2") with a couple of extra arrows ready to go in it. The ams slide system works great, just make certain before each shot that your line didn't wrap around the reel handle and the slide is all the way forward. Go get 'em

I use regular 90 min epoxy, but I purposly dont use the saftey slide because I dont have a AMS reel.  I have just a push button reel and if you have a saftey slide system and something happeneds with the reel you can still draw.  Without the saftey slide the arrow will pop off when you draw!

I use the safety slides and think they work great. I usually end up buying the pre-made arrows with slides and points already attached. I think the points are pinned to the fiberglass shafts as well as glued on the premade ones.

I have pinned heads in the past, but for the carp and such around here, epoxy alone is more than strong enough.

Maybe this has already been answered, but can you mount the ams system on a regular longbow riser.

Yes, AMS make a strap-on adapter that allows you to mount their reel on any bow, inserts or not.
