Little things we can learn with a Robin Hood.
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:16:00 PM »
Thought I would post some pictures of two Robin Hoods that I recently had.

They show us some things related to point weight that I never would have thought unless I saw it for myself.

Both of these arrows are full length Gold Tip Carbons 35/55.
The first Picture show's the difference in penetration of the same shaft.

This is a photo of a Robin Hood I made about two months ago.
It was made with a, Zipper SXT 51#@28" with 250 total grains up front.  50 grain insert and a 200 grain field point.  Shot was 20 yards, at an indoor range.

This is a photo of a Robin Hood I made today.
It was made with a Crow Creek Black Feather 51#@27" with 175 total grains up front.  50 grain insert and a 125 grain field point.  Shot was made at the same indoor range, at the same marked off and measured 20 yards.

I never would have thought less bow poundage, plus more weight would = so much better penetration.
What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

uhhhhh two robin hoods.....with shooting like that you don't need to worry about penetration you should just be able to slide them between ribs right    ;)
Nice one

Mass = penetration.  Speed is not always an indicator of how well your arrow penetrates.  You just got an expensive lesson in physics.  Keep it up and you will need another dozen arrows.

Bryan,

It was indeed a pleasure to get to witness your second "robin hood". Actually......you had THREE witness' to this one.   :D

Jordan and Aaralyn have told EVERYONE here about it over and over again. Most especially, Jordan thought that it was really cool !!! He keeps telling me......."Papaw, get your bow and go out back and do what Bryan did".........yeah RIGHT. I have been shooting since I was 10 years old and have never done this even once.

Your shooting has came a looooooooooooooong way in such a short time, and I am priveledged to be able to shoot with you on a regular basis.   :notworthy:

Oh, and if the bow arrives in tomorrow's mail, expect a call from me........we'll go "tune her up".

GREAT shooting.........buddy !!!!!

That is impressive,I was always impressed how the carbon hold up under the impact and stays together(kinda like hitting bone).
