Did I read something wrong or did the regs this year say you had to use the points by ten years. If you didn't they would be nixed.

As a matter of interest...Can someone please explain to me how tags and OTC etc work? Here in South Africa we have nothing similar but I've always been real curious. One never knows, I might even end up living on yourside of the world in the future and then I'll NEED to know  ;)

motorhead: the pp doesn't cost $25 if you have purchased a big game tag the previous year

Johan,

Certain areas of Colorado are set aside for limited entry. Very few tags are given out each year in those units. You accunulate one point a year for the years you apply. There is drawing for the tags with the people with the most points given preference over those with fewer. If ten people had say 15 points and 20 people had 14 points and 17 tags were alloted all 15 people with 15 points would draw a tag and 2 of the people with 14 would draw. Over The Counter[ OTC} tags are simply that. You can buy a tag to hunt certain units where no points are needed. Typically you will have plenty of company in those units.

That said, I messed up my application last year and did not get a point so fell behind. I still have only have 15PP for elk.

Lost Arra: if you read my original post you would have read that it's been a couple years since I have gone to Colo. SO if I want to buy a preference point it Will COST me 25bucks to get one. To all those interested: go to Colorado DOW's website, go to the FAQs type in (preference points) and read the requirements.should answer alot of questions.

Thanks Jack  :)

So...you do not pay for the actual animal, only for the tag? Once you have the tag you get to hunt "for free"?
