Re-enforcing carbon arrows

I've got a carbon arrow 5/16 that is mushroomed at the nose. I've heard you could re-enforce them with adding a small piece of aluminum shaft. Is this possible and what size would I need for my carbon?

carbon footing info click here
Here is a link for some carbon footing info and there are a bunch more threads with the same info. One thing i learned a while back before posting a thread use the preview button. That way you will know if you got it right!
