225 grain blunts/stumpers
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:22:00 PM »
Does anyone make a commercial 225 gr screw in head for stump shooting? I haven't seen one in that particular weight and have been gluing 100 gr steel inserts into my 125 gr Judos. Anyone out there with something already made up?

Speaking of Judos, does anyone know if they ever plan to make a heavier Judo head? Seems like it would be a quick winner in sales for them.

3Rivers has some heavyweight blunts, called hammerhead small game blunts. But they come in 200 gr. and 250 gr. but haven't seen any 225 gr. blunts. They just came out with 225 gr. field points in the last year or so.

Dave, I don't imagine 25gn would make a whole bunch of difference in yer arrow flight. Go with the 250 Hammers & you'll not go far wrong  ;)

Rob-
I am a precision shootin instramint. I can't handicap myself or my arrows with an excess 25 grains.    :saywhat:

If I waller a 200 grainer in the mud and let it dry, do you think I can get it into the 225 range?

KustomKing has a new small came head as well just got 250's, nice heads might want to check them out as well. They are brutal on small animals and stumps, and they don't snake under grass and stuff.

David, I know you want one already made up....but danged if I can't convince the makers to build one in 25gr increments for everyone out there     :D   . I think you are being forced into rolling your own. Being partial to 300gr, it sort of limits my choices unless I get creative.  As you have found out, you can build just about any weight you want with mixing the right adapter/head.

If you are looking for some ideas for something different than your judos, you can do the 150 gr glue on SGT from Kustom King with a 75 gr insert, the Redfeather archery Talon 150gr glue on with a 75, or the 145gr glue on Hammers from 3R, a 75 grain steel adapter, and add a drop or two of solder in the cavity (the 75gr are hollow) to make weight. I use solder a lot to get the exact weight I'm looking for (I'm particular about head weight to).  I'm sure there are a lot of other options if you mix/match glue on head weights with adapters, these are just the ones that come to mind first.

Sorry, no prebuilts I can think of.

Don't I know it! I've seen you precisely shoot rocks, trees & small twigs around the targets at Twin Oaks!   :biglaugh:

How about filing a little off the 'wings' (for want of a better word) at the front of a 250gn Hammer to bring it down to weight?
