I've had that happen to me and I don't know the cause of it. Perhaps one of the professional guys can give insight.
I have combated this issue by holding an end in each hand and twisting both ends at the same time when I twist the body of the string after the eyes are finished. It doesn't always work but it seems to work more often than not.

I am not a pro by any means, but I have made about 30 strings or so by now.  The only time I have had one end turn out well, and the other turn out like ropes twisted together, were these:

I forgot to put in any back twist.

I didn't put in enough back twist.

I inadvertently turned my back twist the wrong way!  (I am over 50 now)  :biglaugh:

I am thinking someone with much more experience will be along.

I just sent in an article to TradArchers World with string making instructions and tips. Here is what I do to make the bundle come out one round piece instead of two cables: After making the first loop, hook it on something so you can pull and straighten the two bundles. Then put about 25 pre twists THE SAME direction that you twist when you twist and fold making your loops. These pre winds will unwind when you fold your second loop back and twist the tag ends into the bundles. Ideally you will end up with flat untwisted bundles after making the second loop and then when you twist the entire string it will form a nice round single string. Look for more tips in the next issue of TA World (sponsor) magazine.

I'm no pro but it looks like you didn't get enough back twists in it after you straightened the strands. What I did was remember what I did when a string looked like that on the end and put more backtwists until I found out out how many worked for me.Just took alittle practice,I think I remembered in a DVD 30-33 worked for them but I have landed on 35 backtwists for me,this is what has worked for me.

Too much or not enough back twist.  After you make the first loop, count how many twists it takes to get the bundles straight, then add that many back in the opposite direction.

After you get the second loop make, grab both ends and "snap" it a few times and look at the bundles--you should have little to no twists in them.  If you do, take note on which way they are twisted and make the appropriate adjustment to your backtwist.  Just like most everything else in this sport, consistency is the key.
