It's my fault
« on: April 25, 2010, 11:01:00 PM »
It’s my fault there are a couple of young men in out club that have been showing a interest in traditional archery and I lent them my Bear Montana and a few gold tips to shoot a few weeks back and  today one of them shows up with a old Pearson recurve and beat my score by 4 points. Couldn't have been happier if they were my own!

eric-thor the funny thing is we had a milk jug shoot two jugs filled with water on a pulley system and first jug emptied and raised to the top won. Both compound and traditional bows shot against each other pulling numbers out of a hat and  for the final it was two long bows and I won that. There are now some more wheel boys looking at our equipment in a different light but I an going to have to get some more shafts to keep us all in the game.

Way to go Mookie, great job of spreading the traditional word.

Mookie's experience got me to thinking ... what with that new "Robin Hood" movie due out in about a month, I'll bet a lot of us had better lay in a supply of arrows to provide for the traditional interest those Sherwood Forest boys and girls will gin up. May be awhile until the next longbow shooting hero comes along to star in a movie. Could be a lot of new folks will watch that movie and discover what we have known all along ...   :archer:

It can be tough, though. I'm the only Trad guy in a new club here and it's a revelation to me to see the wheel guys all together and me over by myself. When I went over to try "their" target (longer distance) the boys quit shooting until I went back over to "my" place. Funny though, the 2nd night of shooting a photog shows up from the local paper and guess whose picture gets in the paper? I had pretty good form too (even if I do say so myself!). A friend told me that when their club began, he was the only trad guy and now there's a whole new club of Trad only over there. Keep going I guess, it'd just be nice to have someone else (more experienced) to help me out. I feel a bit overwhelmed when I get asked questions about Trad and I'm still so new myself.
