Arrow Decision
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:31:00 AM »
Okay would you rather have a GT 5575 cut to 28 inches pushing a 250 grain broadhead with a 50 grain insert coming out at 576 grains. It would be flying at 167.9 fps with a foc of 24.8 and KE of 34.9 pushing your WW broadhead or. Gt 3555 cut to 28 with a 200 grain WW braodhead, regular insert, and flying at 468 grains at 185.1 fps and a foc of 21 and a KE of 35.5. I am not sure which one to use cuz they both are flying well.

I don't go by KE. If you can compensate reliably for the extra drop with the gt5575 I'd go with that. It has a LOT MORE penetration potential.

Easy choice for me. 5575. Higher foc, higher total wt,extra strength of brass insert and a definite higher momemtum.Momemtum is a far better measure of force than ke when it comes to arrows. The diff of impact at hunting ranges wont matter much to your eye. I am shooting full length 55/75 100 grn. brass 250grn. points, total arrow wt about 700 grn.penetration on deer has been quite impressive. I add a 2216 alum footing and arrows are just about indestructable. Godd Luck, Tom

Easy choice.Go with the 55-75 and don't worry about the KE.The heavier arrow will also quiet your bow more.

I think onewhohasfun nailed it.It's hard to answer which head. There will be a thousand different opinions on that. Both are excellent. The two blade might have a better chance if you hit bone, the 3 blade may leave a better blood trail.Razor sharp and placed right, either should work well.

Like you all have said...No doubt about the 5575 option.

I personally think that a two blade will exit anything a three blade will but a three blade will not exit everything a two blade will.

5575 and use a razor sharp head.  I would pick the head you like unless your hunting really heavy animals like big pigs, large elk, etc... Even then, lots of them have been killed with both kinds of head.

I personally shoot Grizzly El Grandes at 190 grains and have no penetration problems.

Depends on the 2 blade.  Once again, too many variables to make a blanket statement

I agree.  Most folks that make those comments have no experience with 3 blades.  There are several on the market now similar in design as the Wensel Woodsmans, and all will out penetrate certain 2 blades.

I also agree that too many lately are making broad brush statements that have no real experience.

Honestly, with those speeds, I would prefer the 3555...185fps is closer to where I'd like to be for my best shooting...for whatever reason I just like that trajectory better. I would shoot both and choose the speed you shoot best with...Accuracy always takes top priority in my mind.
