John/Alaska

Hey John, just got back to this post and saw your question.  Yes, I'll be back in Tok this September along with Mike and Jason.  We'll be eating dinner at Fast Eddies on the evening of the 5th.  Hope to see you there.

And, I should add one other note to my above post:  a DIY moose hunt in Alaska isn't daunting given the context of Mr. McMiller's original post in which he said he'd been doing DIY hunts for elk for quite a few years.  That tells me he already has top-notch gear such as summit-quality tents and sleeping bags and spotting scopes and binoculars.  Assuming all of that "stuff" is already in your gear closet then all you need is a bit of planning and a good Air Taxi operator.

Mike & John - I'll look for you on the 5th. I won't be going in to my place until late the next day if'n I don't drop one in the early season of late Aug. Yeah and no flu this time!

I should note that F&G is changing the 40 Mile caribou season to later for the area that you are going in to I believe and there could be an overlap. Restrictions will apply meaning a hunter can not have both a moose tag & caribou tag at the same time. But you might ask when you get here if its still open. New regs won't be posted until after the end of June.

Just to be clear about the certification situation.  You do need to be certified if you are hunting a weapons specific hunt, such as a registration hunts that don't require you to draw.  Or as most guys up here know about, the haul road within the 5 mile corridor, or Eklutna bowhunts.

John/AK,

Keep us posted on the caribou thing.  We are planning on either Jason or myself getting a bou' tag instead of a moose.  That way we can go after both species.  And I know we don't want to kill three moose.  LOL
