Hartford,CT Traditional Shop
« on: April 29, 2010, 11:02:00 PM »
I'll be visiting my sister in the Hartford,Ct area next week (5/5,and5/6).  I'll probably spend some time at Cabelas while she is at work but I was really hoping there might be a trad shop in the area that I could visit.  I always like to give my money to the little guy rather than some big national chain if I can.  Anything that would get me out of doing chores around her house would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

White Wolf is a custom bowyer, but I know Tony well and he is a great, great guy to talk with.  His bows are awesome and reasonably priced if you are looking for a new bow.  My brother and I helped design his website (www.whitewolfbows.com).  He also has an **** store.

Hall's Archery is more of a target archery store.  They host the JOAD program, have an indoor mechanical range, and carry mostly Martin and Hoyt tradbows.  They have a Savannah in there that is about 3 years old cause its still being sold at the old price of $459!!  The guys (and gal) in there are nice, but their bread and butter is compound hunters (they deal Mathews, Hoyt (Butch's sponsor), and Bowtech) and target archery.  That said its a nice place to pop into.  The shop is literally 5 mins from my house in Manchester.

Of the two, Andover Archery on RT 318 is the place to visit.  It is a very small pro shop, but Gary Hall is a traditional bowhunter and loves everything trad.  His father, Mark has hunted with Fred Bear, and is often there on the weekends!!  You will most likely walk in to him watching "Primal Dreams" while he's fletching arrows or getting orders ready to ship,  He's a good friend of mine.  While his stock of trad bows is limited, he is a great guy to talk shop with about tradbow hunting and they have a very nice walking 3D course in the woods!  He usually keeps his own Morrisons down at the shop with himself too... but he carries mostly Samick and Bear bows to sell.  Like 99% of archery shops, they must cater to the market and most hunters want speed, technology, and wheels.  Gary is taking off to attempt the turkey Grand Slam this season and heading west soon, so he may not be in the shop... I cannot remember the dates...

Either way, you cannot go wrong meeting up with Tony or Gary.  And it may be fun to go throw a few arrows in the mech range at Hall's.  PM me if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them!
God Bless,
Erik

Thanks for the info.  I'll definitely check them out.  Especially if it gets me out of painting or doing yard work.
