Anyone Know About BRAIDING??
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:16:00 AM »
Hey all,

I am doing a simple 3 strand braid for a strap on a home made quiver setup I came up with.  Nothing fancy at all, in fact it's rather crude, but it works.  I thought I would dress it up a bit and braid a strap for it.  The problem is that I now have a length of braided string and I don't know how to JOIN the ends together to close the loop.

Each end has 3 strands sticking out and I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some ideas on how I can join them and make my strap look pretty good.  I don't want to end up having to SUPER GLUE them together after tying simple overhand knots to join each of the 3 ends.

Help if you can.

Thanks for your time.

If you make your strap a little too long, you can double the braid over at each end and serve it, making a loop at each end.

I braid a little.

another thing you can do is leave both ends about 8 inches unbraided, double it over to make the loop, and splice it back into itself. then serve to your liking....it will not slip apart.
bruce grant has some good braiding books...another good one is australian bushcraft 8 by ron edwards, doesn't go into as much different stuff, and explains really well with good illustrations what he does go into.

I was thinking the same thing as Killie. Double over and serve. I do disagree with you though Killie, It looks like you braid ALOT.   :D

Almost every old boy scout book has splicing and braiding how to stuff in it.  Also most rope splicing systems will work for a 3-braid.
