Anyone after SE Alaska bears this spring?
« on: May 01, 2007, 03:33:00 PM »
I've got the itch real bad again and just wanting to talk bears.  Went for a walk on my lunch break yesterday and saw a sow and two cubs on an avalanche chute.  We leave May 16th, later than normal but that's when I have off of work this year.

Anyone else comming up here or do I have all the bears to myself again?

No, there not all YOURS, keep your arrows out of my bears, LOL!  Leave me a couple.

Oh, and don't you ever return your phone calls?

I wish!!! Someday I'll go for brownies up in your parts...someday. Nice bear in your avatar Steve. Could you tell us how you got that one? What type of bear are you going for Luke? Cheers, Matt

I hope to find a few Interior grizz this spring. Kinda of letting some of the snow go away but hopefully enough will be gone in the next week or two

It's just black bears for me this spring but one of the guys hunting with me will have a tag for brown.  MMMM-Boy!  Look'n forward to greasy bear fat stuck under my fingernails! (if all works out).

Ursus - Good luck! I don't need a grizzy tag in one of the units that I plan to hunt. So it will be any bear (black or grizz)there or both if I choose. I'll be both spot & stalk'n and call & wait'n. The call & wait'n is always fun as they either come in slow & quiet like or come snorting & grawl'n and tearing the heck out of everything.

Steve,
I came back early.  Too many bears!  The flight out will be embedded in my soul forever!  Almost died... not from the Kodiak bears, but the 200 foot drop when the airplane's engine cut out.  Any-who, it was a great time.  I'll have to talk to you on the phone to give you more details.

juneaulongbow - Both solo & with a partner. If I can coordinate with my SIL then it will probably be coastal bears as he has been trying to get me video taped arrowing one. Otherwise it will be Interior critters and whatever shows up or I can find. I will pack some back up heat either way as I seem to have interesting encounters on a regular basis and spring time is especially spooky where I go.

I was out in PWS last Saturday and not a sign.  The local water taxi's have been dropping people off, but most have said that there is still too much snow.  There is still 6+ feet out there, so looks like the middle to end of May will be better.
