Adhesive for strike plates?

Hey folks quick question.I tore my leather plate yesterday and I need to put a new one on fast.Whats best for attaching leather to a longbow? Thanks Herk

About a zillion guys are gonna tell you to get Barge Cement... a popular contact cement which is pretty mild.

I've always just bought any cheap contact cement from the local hardware and have had no problems with clean up... laquer thinner and elbow grease.

It WON'T come off until you want it to.

I use Weldwood contact cement.  I just put the adhesive on the leather and not on the bow.  I don't let it tack up very much either.  Then just stick it on.  It holds very well but can still be removed and cleaned off easily.

Charlie taught me a trick that works well...use contact cement (I use a cheap off brand) on the back of duct tape. You can peel it off and put it on multiple times, cutting it shorter as you wear a groove to extend it's useful life. As long as you don't get it greasy from finger oils while you do this, you can pull it off/on many times and it doesn't come off unless you peel it off. You can also have a spare rest in your kit when you travel, stuck to a piece of plastic that can be moved multiple times.

I use indoor/outdoor double stick carpet tape.  You have to get the kind that looks woven.  I get it at Wally World for a few bucks and a roll lasts me....well until I lose it.  You can take the plate on and off several times to adjust and you don't have to worry about putting on something that is permanent.

I use barge cement, contact cement, duco, or fletch tight, which ever one is handy, they all work fine.

Most of mine I use are sticky backed already,if not Barge cement.

me i use velcro the soft side for a strike plate you can have 3-4 in your pocket. good stuff

Barge cement is as good or better than anything out there; that's, I think, indisputable.

It's also cheap and readily available.  That begs the question:  Why would anyone choose to use something else?
