My buddy Chris Kinslow and I will be headed to the Dallas area over Memorial weekend to pick up a camper that I purchased,   :jumper:  and we thought we would launch the new ownership off with a pig hunt but we need a place to hunt.

Here is what we are looking for:
1.)   A place in the north central or northeastern part of Texas. Preferably north of I20 and between Abilene and the eastern state line.
2.)   A place that will give us a good chance to chase pigs
3.)   public land is okay but we will need a place to camp
4.)   private land without ridiculous hunting fees would be great

Of course hunting with a local Trad Ganger would be a plus.

Is there anyone out there that can help us out?

We looked into Shiloh Ranch and they are booked up for the weekend so they are out. Talked to Curtis and its just too far for a weekend trip so that is out.  Still looking.

I don't have any help for you, but I'll bet you'll come up with something here.  Trad Gangers always seem to come through for good people.
Have a great time guys - sounds like the makings of a good one!

I don't know of any private land but here is a list of some public spots to check out...

Granger lake about 3 hours south of dallas

Caddo grass land about an hour northeast of dallas

Whiteoak creek wma very top corner of north east texas

Caddo lake about 3+ hours southeast of Dallas

Those are the locations of known hogs for me. Here is a website to check out and look into where to go. The two regions you are looking at are the Piney Woods and the Prairies and Lakes area. Hope that helps a little.

Also, you might want to call Mark Horne of Horne's Archery. He is not an outfitter but he is a hunter and might have some insides for you. I would visit his shop and be a customer for some info.

A camper?... You guys are like me and becoming whimps!!

I got all the hog hunting you can handle but its about 5 hrs south of Dallas. A bit too far I think.

Why don't you guy's swing by Rangely on your way home and we can go take care of all the prairie (private land) dogs you can handle!

nightowl1,

Thanks for the info.  Curtis talked to Mark Horne for me and he didn't hadn't seen in hogs around his spot in a while.

I looked up the Whiteoak area and it sounds like a potential spot.  The Caddo Grass land area indicated that it limits the hog hunting to certain times of the year which I thought was strange. Found that on the a website for Texas Public areas.  Forget the exact website name.

If you have any more info about Whiteoak send me a PM or call me. 816-812-8262.

Thanks,

Chris

Tom,
Check the Granger WMA, it's loaded with hogs and is a BOW only WMA. Would cost you (non-resident) about $90.00 for annual permit! Good COE camp grounds. If you go let me know and myself and maybe some other TG"ers will meet you there!!

Longarrow

Thank you for the offer, but due to time constraints Chris and I want to keep our travels north of I20. We have two days we can hunt and part of one of those days will be picking up the camper and getting to our spot to hunt. Your post and Nightowl’s post have been helpful. They have lead us to some WMA web sites that show us where the Texas public hunting lands are located. Tomorrow we’ll make some phone calls to narrow down our search. It would be great to hunt with you if you're willing to travel to the spot we decide on. Let me know and we can make arrangements.

Thanks again for your help.
