Black Mountain Bows?
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:08:00 AM »
I currently shoot longbows, but at one time also shot recurves. When I was shooting recurves I found that I really liked a static recurve like RER and Sovereign. We did some back yard testing of many bows and found that the static recurves were the best performers in regard to speed, very smooth to draw and dead in the hand after the shot.

The Black Mountain bows look to have a radical static tip. If any of you have one, how do they perform in your opinion. Also it seems they build them very short. Do you have problems with finger pinch?

Thanks
Gil

Gil,

The Black Mountain Sheepeater Spirit is a true static recurve.  At 50" it is a short bow but has the manners of a bow 6" longer.  Finger pinch is lessened by the static tip maintaining the string angle.

Also in the BM line is the 3 pc Shaman.  It has the same limb and is offered in 54 and 56 inches.

Our Static tip curve takes over from there and is offered in 56, 58, 60, and 62 on the 15" riser.  Add two inches to each for the 17".

We build both lines of bows and are very proud of their performance.

I've got a Spirit and it is unbelievable how it shoots.  A very well built bow, excellent fit and form, great lines, smooth draw, no handshock, accuracy and performance are top notch, it's light as a feather. As Mike said, there is no finger pinch.  Mine is 52@28 and I shoot 60-65 spined wooden arrows from it-it is a high performance bow.  I think you will be very impressed.

best recurve I have ever shot, I have a long 29in draw and have no problems with stacking or finger pinch, and the short length really helps down here where all the woods and swamps are very thick

The Sheepeater is a *great* shooting bow.  If you like longbows, you will like the Sheepeater - especially with a low wrist on the grip.

Love my new to me sheep eater! I have a true 29" draw. No finger pinch at all! Amazing for such a short bow. It's my new favorite!!!

Thanks for the information. I am going to have to give one of these bows a try. Any time I shot short bows I had such bad finger pinch. My first hunting bow in 1968 was a 52" Bear Kodiak Magnum and it killed the inside of my fingers that met the arrow nock. I am going to have to pick up a used one to give it a try. I rarely see them come for sale. I will keep my eye out.

Thanks

I shoot K-Mags a lot. I usually torque the string (long years of practice...) so it is the outside of my ring finger that gets the callous. I spread my fingers out, trying not to touch the nock when shooting. Takes the right size string, though. I have a bow that needs the serving beefed up, as sometimes the Merc nock allows the arrow to fall off onto the ground in front of me. Usually when someone is watching.

I shot a Sheepeater two years ago and the memory has never left me. I should be getting mine this summer.

Sorry to dredge up an oldie, but Dood! I shot one like this at a trad expo in Boise, met Brent there, totwotoo. Helluva great guy and an even better bow. I love this bow design, light, short, forgiving, and fast.
