Thinking of getting a Leon Stewart Longbow

Been wanting to try Stewart Longbow.  Any info on the difference in shooting between the slammer and the R/D longbows would be appreciated.  Looking in the 58#-68# range.  I found a bunch of info on the slammer in the search function, but not much on the r/d or any kind of comparisons between the two.  Also looking for a one piece bow.

Call Leon and ask him,  he will gladly explain the differences between the 2.   I inquired about a 1 piece 64" Slammer,   Leon was very helpfull.  Looking fwd. to sending him a deposit soon.

Travis I have owned both, the R&D bow has a nice mild reflex-deflex. It has an old style look on the limb configuration compared to the slammer. If you put them side by side you can see the difference. THe R&D bow is fast, nice on draw, no handshock and highly shootable and quiet. The slammer has all of those attributes but is quicker and is a tad quieter, faster. Both have an outstanding locator type grip and both are very shootable. I had the R&D in a 62 incher, and the lil slammer in a 60 incher. Might want to send an email to Scott Dillon  "carcagou" as he now has the R&D bow and he has grown pretty fond of it.  Call leon and he will go over the spec. differences in the riser and limb configuration in more detail.

Travis I have the R/D bow in a 62" version with boo cores that I absolutely love. The fit and finish on Leon's bows are amazing frankly..bombproof. The grip is perfect, your hand fits the same everytime you pick it up. The bow is easily the quitest one piece longbow I have owned and I have owned a ton of em. The cast is simply awesome. It loves a heavy arrow or a light arrow, and throws em downrange with authority. You cannot go wrong with a Stewart bow, not only a work of art, but an heirloom to pass down to our kids someday.

I can't tell you about the R/D bow as I haven't shot one, but I have a 64" takedown Slammer that is only 48# at 28in.  I am a recurve guy but really wanted to try a longbow.  I went through a dozen different ones and this is the only one that I can shoot as well, if not better, than my recurves.  It is smooth, quiet, fits my hand perfectly and really flings an arrow.  On top of that, Leon is a super guy.

Thanks for all the replies guys!  I'm looking for a bow to HUNT.  I love to stump shoot, but at this point don't do much of the 3D thing.  Don't really care how "fast" the bow is, as I'm only concerned with how it throws a 12 or so grain per pound arrow out to 25 or 30 yards.  But as I type this I guess maybe I'm more concerned than I realize.  It's been a long time since I owned a longbow that didn't have bamboo in the limbs and am wondering how maple in the limbs would compare.  In case you were wondering I'm thinking of picking up a used one, but for some reason am having a hard time pulling the trigger on a 13 year old bow.  Trying to decide whether to do that or just wait till I can order a new slammer or R/D from Leon.  I just wish all my hard decisions in life were as "good" as this!

I just bought my second Slammer this year. I cannot compare it to the RD, because Slammers are all I have shot. The one I just got has bamboo cores, osage back and maple belly. It is a solid, steady, powerful bow that I expect will last three lifetimes or more.

The one before that has bamboo cores and maple back and belly. I feel the same about that one. I gave it to my husband for our anniversary yesterday, as he mentioned that he would like to have a longbow. He is not the avid bowmonkey that I am. Stable and forgiving, I look forward to shooting our "his and hers" longbows together. I think he will enjoy shooting a bow that is easier to hit with than that little horse bow he shoots once a year.  

Oh, and Leon is truly a joy.
