I have always been intrigued with shorter bows (due to my short draw) and I was at a shoot this weekend and got to see a Texas Commanche in person.

I have seen pics of several of these throughout the years but never thought much of them but man was I wrong, what is the saying.....dont judge a book by its cover....that pretty much covers it here. I was shooting the course with a guy that had one and it was slinging an arrow down range at some serious speed, me and a buddy both were pretty impressed, it doesnt take much considering my short draw to impress me speed wise I usually never get really fast speeds but my buddy has a 30" draw and he was impressed as well with what he was seeing. I asked the guy what his draw length was and he said 25"!!! (the bow was 55@28").... I had to shoot this bow myself to see if I was just seeing things, unfortunatley the bow was left handed but I shot it off of my hand just to get a feel for it's speed. Seriously this little bow was one of the fastest, if not THE fastest bow I have ever shot! These guys (the bowyers) were putting out a killer little bow.

Well, enough with the long story. I really would like to see pics of any Texas Commanches if you guys have any...

I remember seeing their ads in the magazine.  I thought they were the coolest looking bow around.  My buddy order one and he was a lefty like me and so he let me shoot it whenever I wanted.  It was a great shooting bow.  My buddy's brother also ordered one but his ended up blowing up on him.  It was a few years old and the company was already out of business.  The top limb delamed on him if I remember right.  To bad too, as he really liked that bow.  That was back when you used to have to mail the bowyer a couple bucks to get them to send you a brochure, so you could find out about the bows they made.  
  My buddy ended up selling his a few years back, but it was 63#@26" and way to heavy for me now.  Excellent grip and the mesquite and osage looked great together.

Its funny, almost every one I have ever seen for sale in the past has been 60# plus....

I dont know if The Commanche bows were normally pretty fast or if this guy at the shoot just had a extra-ordinarlly fast example of one or what but it has peaked my interest for sure!

I've owned 3 of them over the years.  69#, 74#, and 85#.  Silly me.  Sold them all.  Man those are nice bows.  Curtis, the bowyer, told me he could easily make them to 100#.

Wonder where all the bows went.  You don't see them for sale anymore.

I have one and it's a great bow. 73# at 28" and is very quick. At hunting ranges the arrow has no arc. lol

Sweet looking bow.....its interesting, I have always been of the persuasion that more limb tip weight equals less speed and more hand shock. What ever this guy was doing proved that theory wrong!

It's super quiet...no louder than my longbows and there is no hand shock. It's only around 52" long. It's really small and light.

I have shot several Red Chavez bows that are similar to the Commanche and even though I believe the Chavez  bows were visually very nice they were always slow and hand shocky....not so with the Commanche.

i have one 62 at 27 got aperfect kill on a250 lb hog in trinity co ca about 18 yrs ago i was hunting with acompound shooter he didnt think much of my lil bow we came up on 2 about 30 yrdsmy arrow entered behind the last rib andcame out his chest the other hunter coudnt line up his kisser button or somthing like that i shoot longbows now but istill have it and it will hunt again they are great bows

I checked my brace height and it's 6 3/4". The bow is 49.5" with the string on ...shorter than I thought.
