Took a rasp to my Bob Lee
« on: June 06, 2010, 08:52:00 PM »
I love my Lee bows I have three. Two longbow risers  and one recurve and a bunch of limbs I mix and match.I like my recurve but the blunt end at the limbs kinda bothered me so I decided to try and cut it down some.I faxed a sketch of what I wanted to do and Rob Lee sent it back with a slight change b/c with 2-limb bolts the ends cannot be too shallow. Not a major change but I like it better.First pics are the orginal bow.

Next pic is in sanding stage.

Final pics after finish.

New plain Jane short riser.

My wife thinks I am crazy cutting up a perfectly good bow but I wanted to try.Wonder if Rob would this to a new bow on request.Kip

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow’s effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

You're a braver man than me, but it looks like a beautiful job. Awesome bow, before and after mods. Congrats!   :notworthy:    :clapper:

Nice work! It looks awesome.

I an appreciate it even if it is on a take-down...lol J/K

Maybe someday I'll mature enough to appreciate the bows that come apart by design.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments I have some limited talent but all in the metal business not wood but so admire people who make works of art out of wood. Chopx2 the last pic of the tan bow is my new short Lee riser and really a handy little 56" bow although not the best looking girl at the dance she will be in a few trees with me thia fall.Kip

Looks sweet fer sure but I'd wouldn't have the stones to do it to mine.

Wow, quite an improvement!

I too gave my new warbow a makeover yesterday. Sanded it down a bit and gave it some linseed oil. Really brought forth the grain. It looks a bit more awesome now. It was quite scary at first though, as I ain't very experienced. But, it all turned out great!

Very nice.  I have adjusted a bow or two and would do it again to get the feel I want.  It is nice to know that others "mod" a custom bow.

It is also cool of Rob to help with advice.  That is top shelf.

You did a great job!
