Where can i get, or what do I use for lacing on leather grips? Also who is a good supplier for leather?

Yeah, what Wingnut said.  You can use pretty much any strong, weather resistant thread but artificial sinew is just a lot tougher.

How much leather do you need? I have a small supply but I could let you have enough to do several bow grips if you want. Just let me know ,I even can give a few different colors. Mostly browns but that's what most folks want anyway!

I actually found some leather just a minute ago ( one of my wifes old purses !!!!! :*) It seems suitable. what supplier is good to purchase sinew?

Mike, I found some sinew #30 does it come in different diameters? This said it would be good for beading.

Good luck w/ the leather for lacing, I never cared for it much. Too rough and not as strong as artificial sinew.  The sinew should be available at any tack / saddle shop.

I have found Tandy artificial sinew at Michael's craft store.  They don't have much in leather works but had brown and black.

I have used artificial sinew,but lately I have been using waxed linen thread from Tandy.The waxed linen thread you can get in different colors like natural,black and brown.

I've used artificial sinew, waxed linen, waxed nylon and plain old Dacron B50 (hey, what do you know, it's useful for something   ) Use what you can find easily.

The 30# or 70# art. sinew would work for what you want it.  The 15# art sinew I'd use for more fine sewing.

Jeremy, never thought of using ol'B50(for anything), how does it hold up?

Lots of colors and no more expexsive than art. sinew.

It holds up fine.  It has a higher breaking strength and abrasion resistance than the 30# art sinew and is thinner.  I use it for stitching pouches and moccasins with no problems too.

I heard you can also use B-50 for bow strings to Jeremy!!!!!! Who knew....lol!!!

yeah, I have B50 on most of my bows from the 1950's... but the one that has TS-1 on it shoots sooo much nicer than its twin sister sporting B50  :D   I just can't bring myself to put the low-stretch stuff on my beloved '59s!

Thrift stores are great places to find leather for grips and things.  Purses, jackets, even furniture?

I have used artificial sinew and also bowstring material. Both work excellent. Whichever gives you the look you desire.

I just sewed a leather grip on my Quinn. Used the same thread I use for sewing capes together when I mount deer heads. Same needle also. You can get the thread and needles from Van Dyke's Taxidermy Supply. Real cheap. McKenzie's also both have links..Van Dyke's have more tools.
